Yasin Ben El-Mhanni was released by Newcastle United in the summer.

Confirmed by the club’s official website, Scunthorpe United have awarded former Newcastle United man Yasin Ben El-Mhanni a contract until the end of the season after impressing on trial.
The 23-year-old former Farnborough and Lewes winger initially joined then-Championship side Newcastle in the summer of 2016, after having several unsuccessful trials at a number of Premier League clubs.
Dubbed the ‘non-League Riyad Mahrez’ due to his Moroccan heritage during his time in the lower leagues, El-Mhanni barely featured for Newcastle, making just a couple of appearances in the FA Cup in early 2017.
El-Mhanni was subsequently released by Newcastle last summer, but he has found another opportunity at Scunthorpe.
After a decent enough start to their League One campaign, Scunthorpe are currently in free-fall after losing their last four league matches – slipping down to 16th in the table having previously been close to the top six.

Scunthorpe have the second worst defensive record in the league with 30 goals conceded in 15 games, and they will be looking to get back on track as they host fellow strugglers Plymouth Argyle this weekend.
El-Mhanni will be available for selection, although it is unclear how fit he is and it could be a while before the former Newcastle winger is pushing for a regular first-team start.
