Arsenal star Lukas Podolski and Barcelona’s Alex Song took a picture together after the entertaining draw between Germany and Cameroon.
Former Arsenal teammates Lukas Podolski and Alex Song faced off last night as Germany and Cameroon played out an entertaining 2-2 draw just two weeks before the World Cup commences.
Cameroon, the visitors, took a shock lead in the second half through former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o following a neat finish from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s pass.
Germany coach Joachim Low immediately sprang into action, sending on Arsenal star Lukas Podolski for his misfiring club teammate Mesut Ozil and his introduction paid dividends.
Within ten minutes the hosts had turned the tie on its head largely in thanks to Lukas Podolski’s energy, but a fine equaliser from Choupo-Moting evened things up with the scores remaining 2-2.
Cameroon international Alex Song lasted the ninety minutes, and his performance was reminiscent of his dominating midfield displays at Arsenal.
The 26-year-old joined the Gunners permanently in 2006, and went on to play for the club for six years before moving on to Barcelona in August 2012.
Lukas Podolski, on the other hand, joined Arsenal the same summer, but unfortunately for the pair they never shared the field in a Premier League fixture as Podolski’s debut fell whilst Alex Song was in strong negotiations with the Nou Camp outfit.
Whilst the duo weren’t together at the Emirates for long, they appeared to strike up a great friendship which has remained over the past two years demonstrated by their picture together last night.
Posted on Instagram, Alex Song left Lukas Podolski a simple message, saying: “Great to see you my bro”.
