Ipswich Town have been linked with Millwall’s Tom Elliott.
Ipswich Town have been linked with a move for Millwall striker Tom Elliott, but the recent form of Kayden Jackson suggests the Tractor Boys may no longer need the Irishman in their quest for League One promotion.
According to the South London Press, Ipswich are still keen on securing a loan move for Elliott. A deal was expected to go through for the Lions’ player in July, but the East Anglian Daily Times claim he failed a medical.
Elliott is now back in training for Millwall, but his path to a regular first-team spot has been blocked by the likes of Matt Smith, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Tom Bradshaw who has returned from injury.
The 28-year-old’s contract at Millwall expires next summer. Lions boss Neil Harris has seemingly given him the green light to move on and find another club, but the expected move to Ipswich may no longer be assured.
Ipswich started the season short on recognised senior strikers. They sold Ellis Harrison to Portsmouth, while question marks still rumbled on over Will Keane who was at Portman Road last season.
Keane has subsequently signed a deal with Ipswich. New signing James Norwood is in the goals, while Freddy Sears is on the road to a recovery following his long-term injury last season.
But it is the recent form of Kayden Jackson that has offered the Blues a huge new lift. The striker cost Ipswich £1 million from Accrington Stanley last season, yet he struggled to get going in the Championship.
The 25-year-old, however, now looks a different player. He scored a late winner in the recent 2-1 win over AFC Wimbledon, and he followed that up with another two goals during Ipswich’s 5-0 rout at Bolton Wanderers.
Jackson is starting to finally look at home at Ipswich, and his recent goal scoring exploits leaves boss Paul Lambert with a selection headache as the Blues now possibly boast the best set of strikers in League One.
