Peterborough United’s Jack Marriott has been linked with Rangers, Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest.
According to a report in Sky Sports, Rangers, Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest are all interested in signing Peterborough’s Jack Marriott this summer.
The 23-year-old has hit the headlines this season after notching an impressive 27 goals in 44 League One matches for Posh.
But, despite his fantastic goal-scoring record, Steve Evans’ men missed out on a place in the play-offs and as a result it is looking likely that the coveted forward will move on this summer.
“I would love nothing better than to have Jack Marriott available next season, but if the chairman exercises his right to sell Jack, I will make sure whatever cash I get is invested wisely. It’s unlikely Jack will be here,” Evans was quoted as saying.
The three teams reported to be interested in Marriott are without doubt exciting prospects considering the size of each club, but in the player’s best interest he would be wise to push for a move to the City Ground.
The recent appointment of Steven Gerrard as Rangers manager will give the Scottish club extra pull in the transfer market, but all things considering they are still some way off challenging rivals Celtic.
The Gers have plenty of catching up to do and, in Marriott’s case, a player of his age and in such form should be seeking a route to the Premier League rather than moving north of the border.
Scotland’s top flight on the whole has some way to go before competing with the level of the Championship let alone the Premier League, while Celtic’s dominance arguably makes it less appealing.
Sheffield Wednesday are a team who will be looking for at least a top six place in the Championship next term but moving to Hillsborough may see Marriott lose his tag as a regular first-team star.
The Owls are stacked with forward players with Fernando Forestieri, Gary Hooper, Atdhe Nuhiu, Lucas Joao and Jordan Rhodes on their books while Derby County loanee Sam Winnall may also return this summer.
Rhodes, in particular, boasts an incredible goal-scoring record at both League One and Championship level, but even the Scot is struggling for minutes in Yorkshire with such strong competition for places.
Forest, on the other hand, are desperate for strikers with the ageing Daryl Murphy and youngster Ben Brereton sharing the centre-forward role this season and neither have established themselves there.
Boss Aitor Karanka will have made a new striker one of his top priorities this summer, therefore Marriott would almost be guaranteed first-team football for a side also seeking a top six finish.
Another factor in selecting the City Ground would be its location, with Nottingham roughly an hour’s drive from Peterborough, meaning it could be an ideal switch when considering what is best for his family.
