Forget Ezequiel Lavezzi, Tottenham’s very own Argentine ace is better

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Ezequiel Lavezzi.

According to a report in The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a summer swoop for out-of-favour Paris Saint-Germain star Ezequiel Lavezzi.

The Argentine international has found first-team opportunities hard to come by this season in the French capital and a summer departure appears to be on the cards.

The Sun states that Atletico Madrid are keen admirers but that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino wants his compatriot to join him at White Hart Lane.

“Tottenham are lining up a swoop for Argentine hitman Ezequiel Lavezzi. Pochettino wants his fellow Argentine at the Lane with Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor on their way out at the end of the season,” the report states.

Would Ezequiel Lavezzi be a good signing for Tottenham Hotspur?

A few years ago when Lavezzi was at the peak of his powers for Napoli he attracted attention from a range of top European clubs, settling on PSG in the summer of 2012.

However, at 29 years of age, the former San Lorenzo ace isn’t getting any younger and there is a strong case to be made by suggesting Spurs already have a better Argentine in their ranks.

As per the table provided by Opta Stats, judging by their respective performances this season Spurs’ Erik Lamela has performed better in a number of key attacking categories.

The Spurs ace posts on average more shots, key passes and successful dribbles per Premier League encounter than Lavezzi achieves in the French equivalent.

Moreover, Lamela’s distribution is considerably better – producing more accurate passes and more accurate crosses on average.

Lavezzi does have his pros, notably his ability to score important goals, but with his wages expected to be in a higher bracket than Spurs could afford he would ultimately prove a needless and costly gamble.
