Nottingham Forest will be keen to bolster their attacking options and the Aston Villa man would be ideal for them.

Nottingham Forest would be wise to take advantage of Aston Villa’s current financial predicament by signing striker Jonathan Kodjia on a potentially cheaper deal as the Reds seek a promotion charge.

Aitor Karanka’s arrival at Forest heightened expectations, and the East Midlands club’s supporters now believe they are potentially one decent summer transfer window away from mounting a promotion bid.

Forest improved immensely at the back following the former Middlesbrough manager’s arrival, but where they lacked was in the final third with a need for extra creativity and a quality finisher.

It appears Benfica’s talented Joao Carvalho could sign for a club record fee, according to the BBC, and the same report suggests his teammate Diogo Goncalves could be set to follow him on a season-long loan deal.

Signing the two Portugal U21 internationals would give Forest the creativity they desperate lack and adding Kodjia to the fray would be completing the jigsaw considering his ability to find the net.

The 28-year-old moved to England with Bristol City from Angers in the summer of 2015, and since the 2014-15 season he has found the net with frightening regularity, scoring 53 goals in his last 112 league games.

Villa missing out on promotion has left them in a sticky situation in regard to Financial Fair Play, with their gamble on a return to the Premier League failing with pretty serious consequences.

The Villans could be forced to sell their players on the cheap, and in Kodjia they have a striker who every big Championship club with promotion aspirations should be targeting.

He barely featured for Villa over the past 12 months, so the club cannot expect to demand a big fee for his services, and at his age he is coming into his peak years with plenty of Championship experience.

Forest should seek a deal as adding a potential 20-goal-a-season striker on top of a sturdy Karanka-inspired defence, plus the creativity arriving from Benfica, has the makings of an automatic promotion side.
