Nottingham Forest are said to be eyeing up a move for Espanyol’s Roberto Jimenez Gago.

According to a report in the Greek editorial sdna.gr, Nottingham Forest are lining up a summer move for Espanyol’s out of favour goalkeeper Roberto Jimenez Gago.
The 32-year-old is currently on loan at Malaga where he has made 33 La Liga starts this term, but the club’s impending relegation to the second tier means he is unlikely to make a permanent switch there.
With no future at Espanyol, the top-flight shot-stopper is expected to move on this summer despite having a contract until 2019 and Forest are said to be among the frontrunners for his signature.
The Reds are in need of a new goalkeeper this summer with current number one Costel Pantilimion set to return to his parent club at the end of the season, and Roberto Jimenez would make plenty of sense.

The former Atletico Madrid man has had a spell at Olympiakos, therefore Forest owner Evangelos Marinakos (also owner of Olympiakos) knows the player well enough to recommend him to Forest boss Aitor Karanka.
Roberto Jimenez – commonly known as Roberto – spent three seasons with the Greek champions between 2013 and 2016, starring at the highest level as he performed heroically during a famous 1-0 Champions League win over Juventus.
Marinakos has yet to really use his connections in Greece to bolster Forest’s squad, yet Roberto would be a real coup for the East Midlands side and the sort of player who would provide plenty of assurance to the defence.

Roberto has also had spells at Benfica and Real Zaragoza, helping the latter avoid relegation from La Liga on the final day of the 2011/12 campaign in quite spectacular fashion.
Karanka will be keen to make changes to his squad this summer as the Spaniard eyes a Championship promotion challenge next season, and a permanent experienced shot-stopper will no doubt be at the top of his shopping list.
