Danny Fox has signed a new deal with Nottingham Forest.

Aitor Karanka, manager of Middlesbrough looks on during the Premier League match between Stoke City and Middlesbrough at Bet365 Stadium on March 4, 2017 in Stoke on Trent, England.

Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka says he is delighted that Danny Fox has signed a new contract at the club as he cites the defender as a leading example on and off the pitch, the club’s official website reports.

The former Southampton left-back signed a new one-year extension at the club, with many feeling it is just reward for a number of impressive performances over the past month.

Since Karanka’s arrival at the City Ground, numerous changes to the playing squad have taken place and in January Fox was one of the players considered for a possible exit this summer.

But over the past month he has starred, mainly at centre-back, proving his doubters wrong and convincing the club that he still has plenty to offer for Karanka’s first full season in charge.

The Spanish boss, speaking to nottinghamforest.co.uk, expressed his delight, adding: “I am pleased as Foxy is a player who has been playing really well in the last month and he is a player who knows the league.

“He has accepted the changes at the club really well and he is a player who is not only important on the pitch, but off it as well.

“He is confident and it is really important for the team. I am pleased for him and he is a very good example for other players.”

The 31-year-old is seemingly taking on the responsibility of being one of the senior players in an otherwise young squad, and his presence could help the likes of Joe Worrall develop into a solid Championship player.

Fox, a four-capped Scotland international, has made 12 Championship appearances as a centre-back this season and over the past month he has become one of the league’s most in-form players.
