Brendan Rodgers has reserved high praise for Celtic’s Scott Brown.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers believes midfielder Scott Brown could play at the very top end of the Premier League and compared his character to that of Barcelona superstar Luis Suarez, the Daily Record reports.
Brown has become a cult hero at Celtic, captaining the side to successive league titles and playing a key role in the club’s unprecedented domestic treble and unbeaten league season last term.
The Scotland international is such a pivotal figure for the club, that opposition players have gone to extreme measures to stop him – the latest being Ross County’s Andrew Davies with his well-documented stamp.
Rodgers believes Brown has become a target due to his outstanding ability and went as far as claiming he saw a similar envy in Luis Suarez and that Brown could make it at a top club in the Premier League.

“What rarely gets talked about is what a really good footballer he is. This is a player who goes right in at the top end of the Premier League but it very rarely gets mentioned,” Rodgers explained.
“I had it with Luis Suarez (at Liverpool). Every ground you went to, Luis always got it. But that only raised his performance level and Scott’s the same.
“Instead of being envious of him, it is about trying to emulate what his qualities are and if you could produce (more) Scottish players like that then you could have some very good players.”

Is Brendan Rodgers being far-fetched in his view of Scott Brown’s ability?
Brown is no doubt one of the better players currently playing in the Scottish Premiership, but to suggest he could replicate his ability to control games south of the border is rather fanciful.
The pace of the top leagues in Scotland and England are world’s apart, and the standard is evident due to Scott Sinclair’s ability to shine north of the border whereas he struggled for games at a relegated Aston Villa.
Brown, along with his fellow Celtic teammates, has found the competition in Europe too much to take as heavy defeats in the Champions League and an early Europa League exit illustrated their current level.
Even on his best day, there is little to no chance Brown could find a place among the Premier League’s top six although, having said that, Rodgers’ assessment is correct in that ‘Broony’ remains the envy of many north of the border.
