Conor Washington joined Sheffield United on a one-year deal last summer.
Sheffield United supporters have taken to Twitter to heap praise on summer signing Conor Washington, after he put in a decent performance during his side’s entertaining 3-2 win at Brentford Tuesday evening.
The 26-year-old joined the Blades in the summer on a short one-year deal following his release from Queens Park Rangers, but he struggled to make much of an impression earlier in the campaign.
Following his debut against Birmingham City, some Blades supporters were critical of his showing, with one fan likening his performance to former player Connor Sammon, who now finds himself in Scotland’s lower leagues.
But against Brentford Washington was given a rare start by manager Chris Wilder, and he repaid his manager’s faith with a solid outing, earning praise from supporters on social media:
On only his second start of the season – and his first since mid-September – Washington thrived upfront alongside David McGoldrick as he recorded two shots, two key passes and an 84.6% pass-accuracy rate (Whoscored).
Sheffield United fell behind after just six minutes, but an Ezri Konsa own goal and Oliver Norwood strike put them ahead in a cracking first 20 minutes before a John Fleck own goal levelled for the hosts.

With the game finely poised, McGoldrick’s replacement Leon Clarke netted the winner, but it was all Washington’s doing as he showed his pace before picking out his strike partner with an accurate pass.
With Clarke and Billy Sharp both in their 30s, Washington has a role to play in this Sheffield United side – especially during three-game weeks where Chris Wilder will be looking to shuffle around his pack.
The victory keeps Sheffield United in the Championship’s top six with fellow promotion challengers Leeds United next to visit at Bramall Lane.
