Derby County’s Jack Marriott joined the club in the summer.
Some Derby County supporters have taken to Twitter to lavish praise on summer signing Jack Marriott after the striker netted the winner in the 2-1 victory over Championship rivals Sheffield United.
The 23-year-old signed for the Rams from Peterborough United in the summer for an initial £3 million fee (Sky Sports) though that could rise in the future depending on bonuses and sporting objectives completed.
Marriott arrived without a proper pre-season and thus featured sporadically over the first two months, but now he has started the Rams past two matches – grabbing two goals and an assist.
After his match-winning display for Derby against the Blades, several supporters felt he reminded them of former Rams heroes Dean Saunders and Bobby Davidson with his movement and eye for goal.
Bobby Davidson was an important figure during Derby’s rise in the 80s, scoring 83 goals in 208 appearances for the east Midlands club as the Rams climbed from the third tier to the top division under Arthur Cox.
Marriott’s movement, willingness to run off the ball and pressure defenders added with his natural goal threat will surely made him a fans’ favourite at Pride Park – and potentially the club’s best striker in years.
After finding the net 22 times for Luton Town and later 27 times in 44 games for Peterborough, Marriott will score goals when given the opportunity and it’s up to the Rams’ fellow attacking players to provide him the chances.
