Some Ipswich Town fans have taken to Twitter to show their support for former Nottingham Forest manager Mark Warburton, as they discuss potential candidates to replace the sacked Paul Hurst.
Hurst only joined Ipswich in the summer after taking over from Mick McCarthy, but just one win in 14 Championship matches has left the Tractor Boys bottom of the table and devoid of confidence.
A report in the Sun claims former Norwich City manager Paul Lambert has been installed as the favourite to take over the job, but former Forest manager Warburton could be the more popular candidate for fans.
The 56-year-old is big on working with youth players and playing a possession-based brand of football, as shown during his nine-month spell at Forest, and some Ipswich fans are keen on starting afresh.
Warburton was somewhat harshly dismissed at Forest midway through last season as, without heavy financial backing, he had the Reds sitting comfortably in mid-table while boasting a 40.5% win record.
Warburton’s successor Aitor Karanka, in contrast, has won just 31.6% of his games in charge of the Reds, despite having a much bigger budget at the City Ground.
Ipswich brought in a number of lower league stars in the summer with the gamble of buying young and cheap players failing to come off so far, but under Warburton’s guidance that could change.
