Ipswich Town have struggled since Mick McCarthy left the club at the back end of last season.

Supporters from rival Championship clubs have taken to Twitter to mock Ipswich Town and their fans for the role they played in pushing former manager Mick McCarthy out of the club.

McCarthy joined Ipswich in the 2012/13 campaign, succeeding Paul Jewell and saving the club from relegation to League One after taking over when the Tractor Boys were in the bottom three.

The Irish boss spent five and a half seasons at Ipswich, with a record of 105 wins, 78 draws and 96 defeats. He guided Ipswich to the Championship playoffs in the 2014/15 campaign.

But, by the latter stages of last season, Ipswich supporters weren’t happy with the club’s playing style and apparent regression and there were calls for change, with McCarthy resigning before his summer contract expiration.

His successor, Paul Hurst, however, has struggled to make an impact, and after 13 league games Ipswich find themselves in the bottom three – with just one win to their name, prompting rival fans to mock their position.

Former Shrewsbury Town manager Hurst has tried to change the club’s playing style and sign younger players from the lower leagues, but the gamble doesn’t seem to have come off with Ipswich clearly lacking a bit of quality and struggling on the pitch. The club’s decision to sell strikers such as Joe Garner and Martyn Waghorn in the summer – two players who scored a combined 26 league goals last term – looks to be a poor one, as Ipswich now struggle for goals.

Many fans at Portman Road still feel McCarthy’s departure felt right at the time, but the gamble to replace him with Hurst looks to have failed.

Following the latest 2-0 defeat at home to Queens Park Rangers, the Suffolk side and face the prospect of a fight to remain in the Championship after 17 straight seasons.
