Leeds United beat Derby County 2-0 at Elland Road on Friday night.
Derby County supporters have taken to Twitter to call for Leeds United goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell to receive a ban, following his high-footed challenge on midfielder Duane Holmes.
The Rams’ clash against Leeds was dominated by ‘Spygate’ as it emerged Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa sent a representative to scout on Derby’s training ahead of the clash – something boss Frank Lampard called ‘unethical’.
But whether Leeds gained any unfair advantage or not was largely irrelevant, as they dominated proceedings and thoroughly deserved to pick up all three points, with goals from Kemar Roofe and Jack Harrison.
One incident in the second period, however, raised eyebrows as goalkeeper Peacock-Farrell seemingly kicked Duane Holmes in the face when challenging for the ball – an incident the referee didn’t deem a foul.
Looking back at the replays suggest that the Leeds goalkeeper may have been fortunate to avoid a red card, and several Derby fans took to Twitter during to call for retrospective action.
Goalkeepers make a habit of raising one leg in a bid to protect themselves when claiming a high ball, but some Derby County fans clearly have cried foul.
Peacock-Farrell otherwise had a very quiet evening, as the Whites were barely tested at the back, keeping their first clean sheet at Elland Road since November.
Derby will be disappointed with their performance, but Frank Lampard’s side remain in the top six this weekend and can look to get back on track next week at home to lowly Reading.
The East Midlands side have themselves been on the flip side of a retrospective action this season, with midfielder Bradley Johnson receiving a four-game ban for biting Joe Allen in the 2-1 defeat at Stoke City.
