The incident between Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings and Reading’s Nelson Oliveira has caused quite a stir.
According to a report by Sky Sports, Aston Villa’s on-loan defender Tyrone Mings will face no further action from the FA following his alleged stamp on Reading striker Nelson Oliveira.
Villa and Reading played out a rather tepid 0-0 draw at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday.
The game was largely forgettable but for one incident involving Oliveira and Mings. After a coming together, the Villa defender stamped on the fallen Reading striker prompting a nasty facial wound.
The referee Geoff Eltringham saw the incident but deemed it accidental as Mings remained on the field, and as such the FA have decided to take no further action with the event detailed in the match report.
Upon further replays and the subsequent injuries to the Portuguese attacker following the encounter, there have been calls for retrospective action against the former Ipswich Town man.
This isn’t the first time Mings has been involved in such an incident. Back in 2017, he was given a five-game ban after appearing to stamp on Zlatan Ibrahimovic during Bournemouth’s clash with Manchester United.
The defender, though, has been given the benefit of the doubt this time and he will be available for Villa’s upcoming clash at home to fellow Championship promotion rivals Sheffield United.
As for Reading, it isn’t known how long Oliveira could be side-lined for as they now prepare for a trip to Sheffield Wednesday before hosting Blackburn Rovers at the Madejski in midweek.
