Ipswich Town’s Trevoh Chalobah is on loan from Chelsea but Derby County should consider a move.

Ipswich Town’s on-loan midfielder Trevoh Chalobah has told reporters for TWTD how a return to the Championship is a possibility for him next season, in comments that should be of interest to Derby County.

“I’ll report back [to Chelsea in the summer] and see what’s what. I genuinely have no idea what they are planning for me so I will just go back to the club and see what they say,” the youngster told TWTD.

“I haven’t even met the manager, Maurizio Sarri, yet because of coming here on loan last year before he was appointed. It will be up to him and his staff what happens next and I won’t know until I go in to the club what the plan is, although I suppose another loan move to a Championship club is a possibility.”

Chalobah joined Ipswich on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea. The 19-year-old arrived as a central defender, but he has mostly featured as a holding midfielder with the Tractor Boys.

A return to Portman Road next season is very unlikely following Ipswich’s relegation to League One. However, he isn’t ready to break into Chelsea’s first-team squad either, so another loan move is expected.

Derby County manager Frank Lampard has plenty of connections at his former club Chelsea, using those to bring in both Fikayo Tomori and Mason Mount on season-long loan deals.

Mount will return to Chelsea this summer, while fellow midfielders Craig Bryson, Bradley Johnson and Jacob Butterfield are all set to depart when their contract expires in June.

Lampard will need to bolster his side’s midfield this summer and a move for Chalobah would make plenty of sense as he would provide options and cover for two areas the Rams are light in.

Chalobah has plenty of potential, and Derby’s assistant boss Jody Morris will know all about his capabilities after previously playing a key role in Chelsea U18 side.
