Huddersfield Town signed Chelsea youngster Trevoh Chalobah on loan.

Derby County have seemingly missed a trick by not signing Trevoh Chalobah ahead of Huddlesfield Town, as the Chelsea loan star showcased his talent in the recent 2-1 defeat at Cardiff City.
Derby benefited from their links with Chelsea last season. The Blues loaned both Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori to the Rams, and both turned out to be star players under former manager Frank Lampard.
Lampard took over the Chelsea hot-seat this summer. Many Derby supporters expected the Blues to send a couple of top youngsters to Pride Park as some kind of compensation package.
Derby owner Mel Morris even suggested to Talksport that it was likely one or two from Stamford Bridge would end up at Pride Park for the season. However, none ultimately joined Phillip Cocu’s side.
It remains to be seen whether that was a decision from Derby’s new manager Cocu or not. Either way, Chalobah’s excellent performance at Cardiff raises the question as to why Derby didn’t go in for him.
Chalobah was among the best players on the pitch in Cardiff. The midfielder posted five tackles, four clearances and three interceptions. Moreover, he was the Terriers’ scorer on the night with an excellent long-range effort.
The 20-year-old only joined Huddersfield on deadline day. By that time, new Derby manager Phillip Cocu would have had a good luck at the Rams squad, and he would have known of the weaknesses in midfield.

New signing Krystian Bielik will prove to be a good addition in there. But, besides the former Arsenal man, there is a clear lack of mobility and directness evident in the recent 2-1 defeat at home to Bristol City.
Cocu has so far deployed two holding midfielders in each game. However, Tom Huddlestone is painfully slow and a liability defensively, while Graeme Shinnie is seemingly out of favour already. George Evans has made a decent start, but last season he struggled with injuries and form.
Chalobah could have been an ideal player to plug the gap. The Chelsea youngster has Championship experience with Ipswich Town last season, and he has already shown this term exactly what Derby are missing.
