Derby County’s Curtis Davies is having an excellent season at Pride Park.

Derby County defender Curtis Davies has outperformed Nottingham Forest trio Joe Worrall, Michael Mancienne and Tobias Figueiredo in as many as six key areas so far this season.

Davies joined the Rams from Hull City last summer, a deal which many Derby fans praised considering the player’ vast experience and previous promotion history.

Alongside Richard Keogh at the heart of Derby’s defence, Davies has performed exceptionally well this season and has made a mockery of those rival fans who may have questioned his ability at 33 years of age.

Forest supporters over the past few seasons have had reason to poke fun at Derby’s defensive frailties, not least reminding Keogh of his Wembley howler whenever the two teams meet.

But Davies’ presence has improved the Rams’ fortunes this season, and his own performances this season can be reflected by his dominance over Forest’s centre-back trio.

As shown by the table provided by Opta, the experienced defender outperforms Forest’s trio in as many as six key areas – not least the average number of points collected per Championship encounter.

Davies records more tackles, interceptions, effective clearances, aerial winners and duels won per league fixture, and even more so than the agile Tobias Figueiredo who has impressed under Aitor Karanka.

Since Karanka’s arrival, the Reds have kept numerous clean sheets with three successive 0-0 draws this past month, but regardless their outstanding defender still trails Davies in overall contribution.

While Matej Vydra, the Championship’s leading scorer, will no doubt receive the plaudits if Derby finally manage to make their long-awaited return to the Premier League this season, most Rams supporters in fact recognise Davies as their key man and the player driving the club’s current playoff bid.
