Former Manchester United great David Beckham remains positive despite a tough campaign for the Red Devils.
It has been a tricky debut season for David Moyes at Old Trafford. The Scot has had to contend with the drastic drop in consistency levels of a few of his more experienced players as well as injuries to key players.
Manchester United face bottom of the League Fulham at the weekend before a vital away game at Arsenal – a game in which a negative result could destroy their hopes of grabbing that all-important fourth spot come May. The pressure on David Moyes is really starting to heat up.
However, one man still fighting in his corner is former Manchester United winger David Beckham. The popular figure is on the verge of starting a new adventure in the MLS with a Miami-based side, and spoke about his former club at the news conference.
The 38-year-old former United number seven believes the Red Devils are experiencing a transitional period, and that the word ‘crisis’ belongs far away from Old Trafford:
“Any season that we’re not on top of the league, is a tough season. We, as a Manchester United fan and ex-Manchester United player, we’re used to winning championships,”
“We’re used to being at the top of the league all the way through the season, so when that doesn’t happen, obviously people think, outside of the club, that there’s a crisis. I don’t see it as a crisis.”
“I see it as a transitional period. We win two games, we’re in fifth, fourth place. It’s simple as that, and then things start looking rosy again.”
Beckham went on to say that David Moyes is doing the best he can during a tough season, and that the Manchester United supporters still have faith in his decisions:
“I think that David Moyes is a great manager, but it takes time”.
“You know he’s joined a club like Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world, and there’s a transitional period. People talk about it being a tough season.”
“I think the fans believe in Moyes. The fans believe in everything that he believes in. It’s just about winning games.”
