Tottenham Hotspur’s Davinson Sanchez has signed a new six-year deal.

Daniel Levy (R) looks on during the Premier League match between West Bromwich Albion and Tottenham Hotspur at The Hawthorns on October 15, 2016 in West Bromwich, England.

Tottenham Hotspur owner Daniel Levy has just pulled off one of the best deals of the summer by tying down highly-rated defender Davinson Sanchez to a new six-year contract at the club.

The club’s official website report that the Colombia international will remain at White Hart Lane until the summer of 2024 after being rewarded for an exceptional debut campaign with the club.

Sanchez only joined Spurs last summer in a big-money move from Ajax, but after settling in at the club quickly, he soon become a regular feature in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting eleven alongside Jan Vertonghen.

The situation regarding Toby Alderweireld and his potential departure this summer is a worry for supporters, but in Sanchez they have a more than capable replacement and without doubt his potential is huge.

Alderweireld’s future at Spurs is in doubt as the player is said to want as much as £180,000 per week to renew his current deal (Football London), while Spurs’ highest earner is only on £100,000 per week (Spotrac).

One of Levy’s key factors to success at Spurs is keeping a tight wage structure – meaning finances are sustainable, while egos, competition and bitterness between players caused by lavish wages is non-existent.

With most of Tottenham’s players earning similar amounts, it helps keep a tight-knit feel to the group and such unity has played a major role in the club’s on-field progression over the past three seasons.

There will come a time when a player may feel he has outgrown Spurs but tying your best talents down for several years would keep the situation in check and that’s exactly what Levy has done.

Sanchez has the ability to become one of the world’s best defenders over the next few seasons and Levy has incredibly tied him down for at least the next six years – on a weekly wage well within Spurs’ tight wage structure.

It’s another brilliant move by Levy, and one which illustrates how savvy he is when it comes to helping the club push its boundaries and potential all while keeping the club’s finances in order.
