Liverpool and Arsenal’s South American stars are among the best players in the Premier League.

Liverpool and Arsenal boast some of the best attacking players in the Premier League, with South American duo Philippe Coutinho and Alexis Sanchez capable of winning games almost single handedly.
The Reds and the Gunners are the form teams in England right now, with both sides boasting five consecutive victories in all competitions and currently sitting in the top four of the Premier League.
Coutinho and Sanchez have been influential of late, and both players top their respective side’s scoring charts as we currently stand at the second international break of the campaign.

But which player has performed better in the opening seven Premier League matches? The table below, provided by Opta, demonstrates all as we compare them head to head.
| Goals | Assists | Shots per Game | Key Passes per Game | Take-ons per Game | Touches per Game | Ball Recoveries per Game | Appearances | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alexis Sánchez | 4 | 2 | 3 | 2.57 | 2.43 | 59.29 | 1.86 | 7 |
| Philippe Coutinho | 3 | 2 | 4.14 | 2.29 | 2.43 | 66.71 | 4.71 | 7 |
As shown by the table provided by Opta, both players perform exceedingly well over a number of key categories yet it is Liverpool’s Coutinho who ultimately comes out on top at this stage.
Sanchez has netted more goals for Arsenal and also averages more chances created via key pass per league match while also matching Coutinho in terms of assists and successful take-ons.

However, Liverpool’s Brazilian playmaker comes out on top in shots on goal, touches and ball recoveries – the latter a key aspect of Jurgen Klopp’s side’s high-pressing style of play.
The two sides have already met this season, and on that occasion it was Coutinho who also came out on top as he netted two superb goals in an entertaining 4-3 victory over the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium.
It is expected the South American duo will be among the contenders for the Player of the Year gong come May, and right now there are not many attacking players in England showing such devastating form.
