Tottenham could benefit from Manchester United’s reported interest in Gareth Bale

Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale this summer. And a deal might result in The Red Devil’s Antony Martial ending up going to Tottenham to help finance any transfer.

According to a report in the Mirror’s live tramsfer thread on Sunday, Manchester United will bid for Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale this summer as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of next season.

Bale sparked plenty of talk following his Champions League Final double against Liverpool on Saturday evening, and his subsequent comments regarding a lack of playing time. Manchester United may feel the time is finally right to bring the Welsh star back to the Premier League.

Real Madrid, however, are said to want more than the £89 million they paid Tottenham Hotspur for Bale’s services, and that could prompt Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho to look at shuffling his playing pack in order to be able to find the money.

Despite recent reports that Antony Martial might well, despite an unhappy season, possibly sign a new Manchester United contract, he clearly hasn’t settled under the Portuguese boss. Martial will also be miffed that his lack of game time and form meant that he missed out on going to Russia with the French World Cup squad.

According to a recent report in the London Evening Standard, Tottenham are said to be extremely keen on signing the player, and the latest developments over their former star Bale could pave the way for a switch to north London.

If Manchester United need to let some players go to subsidise a deal for Bale, Martial would be one logical player to let go. And knowing Tottenham are thought to be keen on the Frenchmen, the Manchester United won’t need to worry about selling him on the cheap.

The 22-year-old’s current price tag is said to be around £60 million (the Express), while his £110,000-per-week wages (Spotrac) isn’t beyond Tottenham’s reach, despite their renowned strict wage structure.

A return for Bale could see Manchester United put up an improved Premier League title challenge next season, while Martial would no doubt strengthen Tottenham’s first eleven too – so it’s a deal which certainly suits both clubs.
