Ipswich Town have signed midfielder Alan Judge this month.
Ipswich Town have confirmed the signing of midfielder Alan Judge on a short-term deal from Brentford; a deal which could spell the end for new teammate Tom Adeyemi at Portman Road.
Judge has arrived on a deal until the end of the season and he will be tasked with helping the Tractor Boys pull off an unlikely survival and preserve their Championship status.
Ipswich are currently seven points adrift of Rotherham United and safety, although manager Paul Lambert seemingly has not given up hope with Judge his sixth signing of the January transfer window.
The 30-year-old made just three starts for Brentford this season but, with several substitute appearances, he has proved his fitness following a long injury layoff after ironically breaking his leg in a fixture against Ipswich.
Assuming he can make an impact between now and the end of the season, Ipswich may seek to retain his services regardless of what division they play in next year and that could spell bad news for Adeyemi.
Adeyemi, a 2017 signing from Cardiff City, has managed just five appearances in 18 injury-plagued months at Ipswich.
Town now have plenty of options at central midfield with Cole Skuse, Flynn Downes, Emyr Huws, Jon Nolan, Teddy Bishop and Andre Dozzell, while Adeyemi’s deal at Portman Road expires in the summer
Former manager Paul Hurst told the Ipswich Star back in October that Adeyemi would be out until at least Christmas after undergoing an operation on his Achilles, and he is still seemingly in recovery.
Judge’s arrival now puts yet another player between Adeyemi and a potential future first-team place and, should he fail to feature between now and May, Ipswich may opt against extending his deal this coming summer.
