Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Manchester United’s Anthony Martial.
Tottenham Hotspur may have a better chance of signing Manchester United’s Anthony Martial this summer after the speedy attacker was left out of France’s initial 23-man squad for the upcoming World Cup.
The former Monaco ace has been on the peripherals of the United first-team for much of the season, prompting Spurs to weigh up making a summer move for him according to reports by Football London.
Martial arrived as a relative unknown at United but it soon became apparent just how much potential he has due to his blistering pace, aggressive attacking nature and eye for goal – hence why United are reportedly seeking £60 million for his signature.
United boss Jose Mourinho, however, has ben reluctant to let the 22-year-old off the leash so to speak and over the course of the campaign he has made just 18 Premier League starts.
Spurs are in desperate need of bolstering their attacking options and Martial would no doubt be perfect – his versatility allowing him to challenge Harry Kane as the lone forward or play a part as a left-sided forward.
He would give Mauricio Pochettino plenty of options and the Argentine’s playing style would certainly help get the best out of the French ace.
The obvious stumbling block would be United’s refusal to sell to a rival or Martial’s desire to leave Old Trafford, though the latter now could be enhanced following his absence from France’s World Cup squad.
France boss Didier Deschamps has opted to select the likes of former Newcastle United flop Florian Thauvin in his place, therefore Martial can have every reason to feel aggrieved at his current situation.
Aside from featuring sparingly for United, Mourinho doesn’t give the player the attacking freedom to do what he does best and it’s questionable whether he will ever reach his full potential under the Portuguese’s reign.
Tottenham would provide a better environment for Martial to develop into a potential world class operator, and surely that must be at the top of his priorities considering the stage he is at in his career.
