Burnley are looking to sign Manchester City’s Joe Hart.

According to a report in The Sun, Burnley are looking to solve their goalkeeper crisis with the addition of Manchester City shot-stopper Joe Hart – a deal which could interest West Ham United.

The report claims the former England number one is keen to leave the Citizens on a permanent deal in a bid for first-team football and is scheduled for a medial with the Clarets over a £4 million deal.

Hart will come in as Burnley’s number one goalkeeper due to the injuries to Tom Heaton and Nick Pope, but when the latter two are both back to fitness boss Sean Dyche may have to make a big decision.

This is where West Ham may come to benefit from Hart moving to Turf Moor on a permanent deal, as reports by Football London this summer claim the Hammers are keen on a deal for Nick Pope.

West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini has already brought in a goalkeeper this summer, signing Lukasz Fabianski from Swansea City. But at 33 years of age, the Pole is surely only a short-term option.

Pope, in contrast, is 26 and still has the best part of career ahead of him having already impressed in the Premier League with Burnley, helping the Lancashire side to a seventh-place finish last season.

The talented shot-stopper is said to have had a successful surgery on a dislocated shoulder (Sky Sports), though no timescale has been put on his potential return to action.

West Ham evidently won’t be chasing a deal for the player right now, but he could become a key target for Pellegrini next summer and Hart’s involvement at Burnley could facilitate a potential future deal.

The former Charlton Athletic man is currently earning just £15,000 per week at Burnley (Spotrac), a figure which West Ham could easily better should they go in for him in the near future.
