West Bromwich Albion’s Harvey Barnes has been superb this season.

According to a recent report in the Sun on Sunday (07/10 page 60), West Bromwich Albion are willing to smash their club record and offer £20 million for Blackburn Rovers’ Bradley Dack in January.

Dack has been excellent for Rovers so far this season, carrying his incredible League One form into the Championship as he tops the club’s scoring charts with six goals while providing two assists.

The Baggies were said to have wanted Dack in the summer as they tried to sign him for £15 million (reported in the same article by the Sun), but Rovers turned down their bid as they look to hold on to their prized asset.

With West Brom challenging for promotion to the Premier League and backed by parachute payments, perhaps they feel an increased bid for Dack in January will prompt Blackburn into selling him.

What is the catch?

Signing Dack would certainly please the Baggies supporters, but it appears the only reason for West Brom to shell out such a figure on an already menacing attack is if they are potentially drawing up a contingency plan.

Harvey Barnes has been a key cog in West Brom’s free-scoring attack this season, grabbing five goals and two assists in 12 starts, but his performances would not have gone unnoticed by parent-club Leicester City.

The Foxes may feel Barnes’ incredible form on loan in the Championship demonstrates he is ready to challenge for a first-team spot at the King Power Stadium as early as January, which could lead to an early recall.

Darren Moore certainly will not want to lose central attacking midfielder Barnes, with his side scoring a whopping 31 goals so far, but perhaps that is the risk when you do not own the player outright and he is in such a rich vein of form.
