Sam Allardyce has spoken about fond memories at Bolton Wanderers in recent days.
Bolton Wanderers supporters have taken to Twitter to comment on former Everton manager Sam Allardyce, with some wishing the current unemployed boss would return to the University of Bolton Stadium.
The Trotters are currently struggling under present manager Phil Parkinson, recording just one win in 13 league games which has seen the Lancashire club drop down to 23rd place in the Championship table.
Aside from losing games, Bolton just can’t seem to find the net these days with only two goals scored in their last 10 league games. After 17 Championship games, they’ve only netted 11 times in total.
Allardyce led Bolton to the Premier League and established them there, recording four consecutive top eight finishes. His last job was at short one at Everton, where the Toffees replaced him with Marco Silva in the summer.
Having recently spoken of his fond memories at the Lancashire Club for BT Sport, some fans at the club took to Twitter with calls for him to return – however unlikely it may seem.
The biggest stumbling block with Allardyce ever potentially returning to Bolton would be a question of wages, with the former England and Everton manager clearly a level above that of a struggling second tier side.
What Allardyce did at Bolton was nothing short of magnificent considering the size of the club and their budget at the time, and his exit in 2007 prompted a steady decline which eventually resulted in relegation in 2012.
Bolton are now one of many former Premier League sides in the second tier with ambitions of a top-flight return, but with so much competition at stake, getting there will now require heavy investment or a top-class manager.
