Alfredo Morelos has been a huge success at Rangers.
Former player Colin Stein believes Rangers could command a big fee for striker Alfredo Morelos this summer if they decide to cash in on the 21-year-old, the Glasgow Evening Times reports.
The Colombian forward was one of six foreign imports to arrive at Rangers last summer, with then-boss Pedro Caixinha looking to try an alternative method in closing the gap on rivals Celtic.
While the likes of Carlos Peña, Eduardo Herrera and Fabio Cardoso have failed to impress to Ibrox, Morelos has been a roaring success and his performances have recently earned him a new deal at the club.
Speaking to the Glasgow Evening Times, Stein believes the former Independiente Medellin striker has become a vital player for the Gers and believes the club could now command a big fee for his services.
“If they had sold him [Morelos] and then they lost [Jason] Cummings or [Kenny] Miller, they wouldn’t have a striker. I don’t know if he will go in the summer, we will just have to wait and see,” Stein explained.
“If you are a striker that is scoring goals then you will be wanted all over. Anyone that can get 20, 25 goals a season will be in demand and you will command big money.”
Morelos joined Rangers from HJK Helsinki last summer for an undisclosed fee, and so far this season he has gone on to score an impressive 17 goals in 33 games in all competitions.
He currently rivals the very best strikers in the Scottish Premier League, and the Ibrox club will be delighted they managed to fend off interest in January and tie him down to a new three-and-a-half-year deal.
While Caixinha may have squandered much of his transfer budget last summer on poor acquisitions, selling Morelos would no doubt recoup the bulk of that, although Rangers would be wise to keep hold of him for as long as possible.
