Sheffield United are struggling for form at present.
Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder says the character of his side can’t be questioned despite the club suffering a poor run of form and slipping further away from the top six, the Sheffield Star report.
The Blades started the Championship campaign in excellent fashion and after a run of 12 wins in their opening 17 league matches many felt they could push for a surprise automatic promotion spot.
Unfortunately for Wilder’s men, since beating Burton Albion 3-1 at the Pirelli Stadium in November, the Yorkshire club have managed just two wins in their last 13 games – dropping down to eighth in the table.
United find themselves five points adrift of the playoffs following back-to-back defeats, yet Wilder remains confident his side can get back on track as he brushed aside doubts over their character.
“If people want to write us off, which I’m sure they are doing, then that’s up to them,” Wilder told the Sheffield Star.
“If they want to say that’s us done, they can do that if they want. It’s fine by me. But I know the spirit that’s in this group and I know they can go again. I know better than anyone the character of these boys.”
“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the character of our group, in fact I know there isn’t because they prove it every single day.”
Last season’s League One champions are looking to become the third team in the past decade to claim back-to-back promotions – following the success of Southampton and Norwich City.
Up next for the Blades is another Yorkshire derby against fellow playoff contenders Leeds, and the stakes will be high as both clubs know defeat could leave them as many as eight points adrift of the top six.
United won the reverse fixture at Elland Road by a 2-1 scoreline, with youngster David Brooks firing in a late winner.
