According to the latest odds published by Oddschecker, former Sunderland manager Chris Coleman has been installed as 5/1 favourites to become the next manager of Swansea City.
The Swans have all-but been relegated from the Premier League this season as they head into the final game of the campaign three points behind Southampton and nine goals worse off.
As a result, Sky Sports report that the club won’t be looking at extending Carlos Carvalhal’s contract beyond this summer as they have doubts the Portuguese manager is the right man to lead them back up.
With the club seemingly set to look elsewhere, early odds have placed Coleman as the favourite to land the post with the Welshman currently unemployed following his dismissal at Sunderland.
The 47-year-old stepped down from the Wales national team after guiding them to the last four at the 2016 European Championships and he subsequently took over a struggling Sunderland side.
Coleman was tasked with keeping the Black Cats in the Championship following a poor start to the campaign, but problems at the Stadium of Light were probably bigger than he first anticipated.
Despite a brief resurge towards the end including a 4-1 victory over Derby County, Sunderland succumbed to a second successive relegation as they lost to fellow League One bound side Burton Albion 2-1 at home.
It was thought Coleman would remain in charge and help the Mackems in their bid for an immediate return to the second tier, yet amid a new takeover, he was somewhat surprisingly relieved of his duties.
Swansea need a strong figure after going through numerous different managers in recent years, and Coleman knows the Welsh club well having made 160 appearances for them as a player.
The former Real Sociedad manager could be the ideal man for the role though he isn’t the only one being linked as odds are also available on Steve McClaren (6/1), Alan Pardew (10/1) and Chris Wilder (12/1) among others.
