Ipswich Town caretaker boss Bryan Klug has raised question marks over the quality of Ipswich Town’s squad by admitting he is only hopeful the quality is there to stay in the Championship, East Anglian Daily Times report.

“I hope so. Whoever does come in has got to work with these players until there is an opportunity to maybe add one or two, but I think we’ve got some good players,” Klug explained.

“I’m obviously biased, but I think we’ve got some good young players who will do well for this club eventually. But I think a mixture of the young and the old will hopefully be good enough to get us up the league.”

Klug is taking charge of Ipswich’s clash at Millwall this weekend following the sacking of manager Paul Hurst on Thursday afternoon.

Former Norwich City manager Paul Lambert is tipped to take over at Portman Road this weekend, but the clash in south London with Millwall has come too soon so Klug will oversee the first-team.

It is a game the Tractor Boys cannot afford to lose as they currently sit bottom of the Championship, four points behind the Lions who are 20th and just a point above the drop zone.

Ipswich Town fans arrive ahead of the Sky Bet Championship match between Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough at Portman Road on May 6, 2018 in Ipswich, England.

Ipswich gambled in the summer by selling key players such as Martyn Waghorn, Joe Garner and Aaron Webster, while replacing them with several cheap, younger players from the lower leagues.

The Portman Road club won just one of their 14 league games under Hurst and the next manager’s task will be to stave off relegation with a squad not used to being in this position.
