Some Ipswich Town supporters have called on the club to re-sign Daryl Murphy from Championship club Nottingham Forest after reports claim the Reds have stuck him on the transfer list.

According to the Irish Sun, newly-appointed Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi has told the veteran striker he is to leave the club as the Frenchman looks to put down a marker on the squad at the City Ground.

Forest signed Murphy for a reported £2 million from Newcastle United two years ago. He was seemingly a favourite under Martin O’Neill, but his fellow Irishman’s sacking at Forest has open the door to a likely exit.

Murphy was once a crowd favourite at Portman Road, and some Ipswich fans hearing of his reported transfer-listing have taken to Twitter to plead for his return.

Murphy scored over 60 goals during his spell at Ipswich. In the 2014-15 campaign, he topped the scoring charts with an impressive 27 strikes in 44 games as the Tractor Boys reached the Championship playoffs.

Nowadays, however, the striker is 36 years of age and entering his final years as a professional. He could still do a job in League One, especially alongside James Norwood who bagged a hatful last season at Tranmere Rovers.

Not all Town supporters, however, are in favour of a possible reunion with the Republic of Ireland international. Some feel his best days are behind him, while the club haven’t always had success bringing back former players.
