Bournemouth ace Harry Arter has singled out Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe as the Black Cats’ key man as the two sides are set to meet at the Vitality Stadium this weekend, afcb.co.uk report.

After staying up by the skin of their teeth last term, Sunderland have somewhat unsurprisingly made a struggling start to this season as they currently find themselves bottom of the table after ten matches.

Bournemouth’s Arter, though, isn’t taking the fixture for granted and he believes Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe is still one of the best in the business and a player they must keep their eye on this weekend.

“Sunderland might be on a difficult run at the moment, but they’ve got the ability to turn things around at any point. We’ll respect them like we will any side,” Arter told the club’s official website.

“Defoe’s had a fantastic career and he’s been one of the Premier League’s greatest goalscorers really. With the way he finishes, you’d have to put him up there with one of the best. He’ll get our full respect.”

Defoe almost single-handedly kept Sunderland up last season, scoring an impressive 15 Premier League goals in 28 starts as the Wearside club dragged themselves out of the bottom three late on in the campaign.

This season he has a decent tally of five goals in ten games, but so far his contributions infront of goal haven’t had the desired effect what with the club struggling to keep them out at the other end of the pitch.

Bournemouth currently sit in tenth position in the table and will target all three points at home to David Moyes’ men, and on current form it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them claim a comfortable win.
