Bolton Wanderers were reportedly close to signing Sheffield United’s Ched Evans.

According to a report in the Bolton News, Bolton Wanderers were agonisingly close to signing Ched Evans from Sheffield United on deadline day but ultimately a deal could not be materialised.
Evans was on loan at Fleetwood Town, where he had netted 11 goals in 25 appearances for Joey Barton’s side.
The 30-year-old was seemingly set to cut his loan spell at the League One club short to move to the Championship strugglers, but the situation now leaves Bolton in a pickle for the rest of the season.
Phil Parkinson’s men are currently sitting in the Championship’s bottom three, two points behind Rotherham United and safety.
Bolton have struggled for goals all season, netting just 19 league goals in 29 games, and their decision to cancel a deal for Christian Doidge means they are very light in attack going forward.

Evans would have come in as a likely first-teamer, with the player rediscovering his top form this season after failing to break through at Bramall Lane with fierce competition for places.
The Blades would have had good reason to allow Evans to join Bolton, with the hope that his goals could see the Trotters take some valuable points away from United’s promotion rivals.
