Bolton Wanderers have a big January transfer window ahead of them.
Bolton Wanderers owner Ken Anderson has told reporters how the club won’t be forced to sell any of their leading players this January amid speculation of financial troubles, Bolton News report.
“There has been some media speculation about a fire sale in January, but l can assure you that there is absolutely no truth or financial need for this,” Anderson explained.
“We will review what we do in the window nearer the time when the management team and l will discuss what has and hasn’t worked so far and what we all think is needed to strengthen and improve the squad for the run in to give us the best opportunity of retaining our Championship status.”
Bolton have made the headlines for all the wrong reasons in recent weeks, with players not being paid their November wages on time and proposed takeover bids failing to move forward.
The situation has prompted plenty of speculation over the club’s financial troubles, and heading into January whether the Trotters will be forced to sell players rather than looking to strengthen the playing squad.
On the field, Bolton have been in dire form as just one win in their last 17 Championship matches now sees them in the bottom three and a lack of goals scored – six from their last 14 league games – is proving a big problem.
But providing the Trotters can hold on to their better players and strengthen in January, there is no reason why Phil Parkinson’s side can’t pull themselves out of the mess they find themselves in.
Bolton generally haven’t played too bad on occasions, and with just one point separating them from Millwall in 21st, there is still hope they can repeat last season’s efforts of surviving against the odds.
