Bolton Wanderers must look to strengthen in January.
Bolton Wanderers manager Phil Parkinson has suggested that without a takeover or outside investment the club will struggle to be able to make any changes to the playing squad in January, Bolton News report.
“I think the chairman has said in the paper several times that he’s looking to sell the club. It’s been out there in the media that he’s trying to find someone who can invest money into the club,” Parkinson explained.
“If that happens before January it would be great for us. If it doesn’t then we’ll have to do what we have for the last two years and that’s dig deep and work hard for each other.”
Bolton’s financial troubles have been highlighted over the past week or so, with players and staff yet to be paid their November wages while owner Ken Anderson is still searching for fresh investment.
On the pitch, the Trotters have been in dire form and just one win in their last 14 league games has seen Phil Parkinson’s side slip down the table and into the Championship relegation zone.
Aside from their inability to put points on the board, Bolton just can’t seem to find the net. They’re the league’s lowest scorers, registering just three goals in their last league 12 games.
Without fresh impetus in January, notably more creativity in midfield and a capable goal scorer, Bolton’s survival hopes appear slim. Therefore, it’s imperative they find a new buyer now who is ready to invest in the team.
In the event of failing to find fresh investment, Bolton will need everybody to stick together, but from a supporter’s perspective it must be tough watching with a return to League One a realistic consequence.
