Sheffield United beat Blackburn Rovers 2-0 at Ewood Park last week.
Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray says he told his players not to worry after Sheffield United ended his side’s 25-game unbeaten home run as he heaped praise on the Blades, the Lancashire Telegraph report.
“I’ve said to the players, don’t worry about the defeat to Sheffield United, they are top of the league and a good team. They have good players and a system they have stuck to for two years now. There’s no disgrace getting beat,” Mowbray explained.
Blackburn were hoping to preserve their long unbeaten home run in the league stretching back to 2017, but they came up against a Sheffield United side in top form and from early evidence a clear level above.
The Blades, after losing their opening two games of the season, have won eight of their last 10 Championship games including the last four in succession to place themselves at the top of the table.
Chris Wilder’s men have got plenty of goals in them, but arguably their biggest strength this season is their cohesiveness with all the players knowing their roles and working hard for each other.
The Yorkshire side have a steely side which will keep them in matches, and it’s no surprise to see they have great mental strength having scored late goals to claim victory on three separate occasions already this term.
Rovers comfortably won League One last term, replicating the Blades’ success from the previous year, and they will take heart from a decent start to the campaign which sees them sit in tenth spot.
Sheffield United finished in the top 10 last season before strengthening over the summer, therefore they are a good example for Blackburn to follow as they too aspire to return to the Premier League.
