Birmingham City’s Kristian Pedersen is a fan of West Bromwich Albion’s Matt Phillips.
Birmingham City left-back Kristian Pedersen has named West Bromwich Albion winger Matt Phillips as his toughest opponent in the Championship when asked by the Blues Talk podcast.
“Let me think… There is one geezer from West Brom. [Matt] Phillips can it be? Yeah [he is] explosive. He’s good,” the Danish defender responded.
Pedersen signed for Birmingham in the summer of 2018 on a four-year deal and has completed one season at the Championship club with the Blues finishing in the lower half following a nine-point deduction.
Birmingham took just one point off West Brom last season, with a 1-1 draw at St. Andrew’s earlier in the campaign followed by a 3-2 defeat at the Hawthorns at the end of March.
Phillips, a reported £6 million signing from Queens Park Rangers back in 2016, played in a right wing-back role and scored in the draw at Birmingham earlier in the campaign.
The 28-year-old, however, was absent for the return fixture through injury.
Phillips has gone on to start all seven Championship games under new West Brom boss Slaven Bilic. He has posted two goals and one assist in a more attack-minded role.
Pedersen has also been a regular for Birmingham this term. The 25-year-old is proving to be a top-quality player at St. Andrew’s, averaging 3.4 tackles and 4.3 clearances per Championship game.
