Middlesbrough’s Lewis Wing is set to have an operation for a hernia problem.
Middlesbrough supporters have taken to Twitter to comment on the latest news suggesting Lewis Wing could be ruled out for the rest of the season as he is set to have an operation for a hernia problem.
Boro boss Tony Pulis told the Northern Echo prior to his side’s weekend clash how Wing had been struggling and an operation needs to be done after admitting the player’s form has dropped off.
“We’re trying to get it done as quickly as we can. It’s a hernia and it needs to be done. Wingy at Villa and in other games, has dropped off,” Pulis explained.
“On the Monday I pulled him and said, ‘Lewis, if we need you for half an hour, someone to smash one in’. He said, ‘yeah, I’m fine’. He went out there and he was bloody awful.”
Wing’s absence would be a bitter blow to Boro’s chances of reaching the Championship playoffs this season, and supporters have taken to social media to let their feelings on the player’s injury be known.
Wing has been one of Boro’s biggest bright sparks of an otherwise frustrating campaign. The 23-year-old has featured as an attacking midfielder, scoring two goals and grabbing three assists in 26 league appearances.
Despite heavy competition from several midfield players at the Riverside Stadium, Wing has earned the trust of Pulis and has proven he is more than capable of having a big, positive influence on the side.
His pending absence will be a big hit for Boro’s playoff chances, and it comes at the worst time with the Teesside club so out of form.
Pulis’s side have failed to win in their last six matches and have lost four home games in succession. Their form has seen them drop out of the playoffs with Aston Villa, Bristol City and Derby County moving above them.
