Nottingham Forest have signed Ben Watson on a free transfer.

Nottingham Forest fans have taken to Twitter to share their opinion of the club’s new signing Ben Watson, with one supporter in particular labelling him the best of the lot.

Under the instructions of new manager Aitor Karanka, Forest underwent a number of changes to player personnel during the January transfer window, and deadline day in particular was a busy one at the City Ground.

As many as six new players signed on January 31, including goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon, former Reds ace Adlene Guedioura, Joe Lolley, Lee Tomlin, Ashkan Dejagah and Newcastle United’s Jack Colback on loan.

The signings have added experience and strength to Forest’s young squad, and with Watson’s arrival they now have that extra mettle in the middle of the park to help protect a fragile back four.

Forest have exciting talents on their books, but among their youthfulness was a brittle backbone and it comes as little surprise to see that they have the third worst goals conceded record in the Championship with 48.

Karanka is renowned at setting his teams up to be hard to beat, but even in his early stint the Reds have struggled to keep the goals out, with a 3-0 home defeat to Preston followed by a 2-0 loss at Fulham.

Watson may not have played much Premier League football this season, yet the holding midfielder at 32 still has a good couple of years left in him and he is capable of being an excellent player at Championship level.

The former Wigan Athletic FA Cup winner played in 35 Premier League games for Watford in the 2015/16, helping the Hornets comfortably avoid relegation in their first season back in the top flight.

Karanka will be hopeful he can make an immediate impact as Forest look to pull away from relegation danger this term, and supporters are quietly optimistic that they have picked up a real bargain.
