Bayern Munich have released the salaries of their football players – showing an incredible diversity.
According to German paper Bild, Bayern Munich have officially released the salaries of their first-team squad.
Unsurprisingly, French international Franck Ribery tops the list, earning €12m a year – reportedly €1.8m less than Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney and a whopping €5m behind Ballon d’Or rival Cristiano Ronaldo. Yet, that figure is matched by summer signing Mario Gotze.
Bayern Munich legends Philippe Lahm and Bastian Schweinsteiger earn €10m a year, and are both followed by Thomas Muller, Manuel Neuer and another summer signing Thiago Alcantara on €8m a year.
During the January transfer window Bayern forward Toni Kroos was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United. The 24-year-old has a contract which runs out in the summer of 2015, and a new deal has yet to be negotiated.
Following Bild’s revelation, it comes as little surprise to understand why Toni Kroos may feel slightly undervalued. His earnings of €4.5m a year make him Bayern’s 15th highest paid player – less than the likes of Rafinha and Daniel van Buyten and on-par with squad player Claudio Pizarro.
Kroos has been a regular first-teamer so far this campaign, starting 15 Bundesliga matches – nine more than the 36-year-old van Buyten who has only been used as cover for Dante and Jerome Boateng at the back.
It remains to be seen whether Kroos will be able to negotiate a new deal at Bayern, but with the figures out in the open, it will give Manchester United a huge advantage to financially persuade the German international to join Old Trafford this summer.
Mario Mandzukic is another player who has been linked with a move away from Munich, with Arsenal and Juventus amongst others linked with the striker.
The Croatian international’s current earnings also fail to coincide with that of an important first-team figure. Despite being Bayern’s top goalscorer with 12 Bundesliga goals, his salary of €5m a year makes him Bayern’s joint-12th highest earner – less than defenders Jerome Boetang and David Alaba.
As a result of Lewandowski’s impeding arrival this summer, Mandzukic may well feel more appreciated elsewhere – perhaps at the Emirates stadium?
