Neil Harris, manager of Millwall looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Millwall and Wolverhampton at The Den on December 26, 2017 in London, England.

Millwall boss Neil Harris has heaped praise on Steve Bruce after he sacked by upcoming Championship opponents Aston Villa, South London Press & Mercury report.

“Steve is a really good man. The few times I have met him at games or after we have played them he has been fantastic company, very wise words and snippets of information,” Harris explained.

“He is top drawer to learn from. Playing-wise he had a great career and as a manager he is a legend in terms of what he has achieved so far. If we ever needed a reality check as managers that our jobs are never really safe and your job is always in question, then you can see that with Steve Bruce.”

Bruce was sacked as Aston Villa manager in midweek after his side drew 3-3 at home to Preston North End, extending a run of just one Championship win in eight games.

The former Manchester United defender has achieved multiple promotions from the Championship, guiding Birmingham City (twice) and Hull City (twice) up to the Premier League. But Bruce’s stint at Aston Villa peaked last term, as the club lost 1-0 in the Championship playoff final to Fulham.

Bruce will no doubt find more work at a top Championship club considering his impressive CV, but it might be some time before he is given the opportunity to manage a club with the potential of Aston Villa.

With new owners at Villa Park, the club will begin the process of appointing a new manager, but not before taking on Harris’s Millwall at the Den.

Millwall head into the clash buoyed by their draw at Nottingham Forest, after falling 2-0 behind, and they will look to take advantage of Villa’s upheaval by securing a much-needed three points this weekend.
