Arsenal have signed Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen.

Bernd Leno of Germany looks on during the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017 Group B match between Australia and Germany at Fisht Olympic Stadium on June 19, 2017 in Sochi, Russia.

Arsenal fans have taken to social networking site Twitter to comment on the arrival of new goalkeeper Bernd Leno, with many now pleading with the club to sell last season’s number one Petr Cech.

Newly-appointed manager Unai Emery has seemingly targeted the goalkeeping area as a position to strengthen, and German shot-stopper Leno quickly became the club’s number one target.

The highly-rated 26-year-old made more than 200 Bundesliga appearances for Leverkusen, and Emery told the club’s official website how excited he is to link up with the German confederations cup winner.

“Bernd is a goalkeeper of high quality and experience. We are all excited that Bernd has chosen Arsenal Football Club and look forward to start working with him in pre-season,” he told arsenal.com.

Bernd will join Colombia international David Ospina and current number one Petr Cech as the club’s senior goalkeepers, but a section of Gunners fans believes the time has come to move the latter on.

Cech arrived from fellow London rivals Chelsea in the summer of 2015 and he has gone on to make over 100 Premier League appearances for the club, winning the FA Cup in 2016-17.

But the Czech international has struggled for form over the past 12 months, and at 36 the four-time Premier League title winner is now seemingly past his best.

Cech has a year left on his £100,000 per week contract (Spotrac), and with Leno’s arrival and Ospina in the mix it remains to be seen just how many games the experienced shot-stopper will feature in this term.

If Arsenal fans get their wish, perhaps they will be able to offload him this summer though Cech’s chances of finding another top-flight club willing to take him on with such wages would be slim to say the least.
