Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane is currently the best striker in Europe as he highlights the player’s excellent goal-scoring form, Arsenal.com reports.
The Gunners head in to the North London derby this weekend some four points behind their fierce rivals and they know a defeat at Wembley would leave them with an uphill task to finish in the top four.
In order to beat Spurs, Arsenal will have to defend much better than on their recent travels – conceding five at Bournemouth and Swansea City – and they will have to be mindful of Tottenham’s attacking prowess.
In Kane, Mauricio Pochettino’s men have the Premier League’s leading scorer and, on current form, even Wenger admits there are not any better strikers in Europe right now.
“If you look at the numbers, no, because he has high numbers,” Wenger told Arsenal.com when asked if there is a better striker in Europe than Kane at present.
“What you want in a game like that is to keep him quiet and our strikers, who are top class in Europe as well, to express their talent.”
Kane has notched an impressive 28 goals in all competitions this season, while his astounding tally of 13 strikes in his last 10 outings rivals any other attacking player in world football right now.
The 24-year-old will be eager to find the net this weekend against the team who released him as an eight-year-old, and there is extra motivation to exact revenge following the Gunners’ 2-0 win at the Emirates Stadium in November.
Having said all that, Arsenal themselves have a player who Tottenham know all too well, as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s record against them is not too shabby at all.
Arsenal’s record signing scored three times in four European matches against Spurs, including an excellent long-range effort at White Hart Lane in a 2-1 victory for former side Borussia Dortmund.
