Carlo Ancelotti responds to Arsenal link, drops summer hint

Carlo Ancelotti has been linked with replacing Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.

Carlo Ancelotti has told reporters at the Gran Gala dello Sport in Italy that he still lives in London and there will be information on his future in the summer when responding to the Arsenal links, Le10sport report.

The former Chelsea manager has been out of work since receiving his marching orders at Bayern Munich earlier this season, despite comfortably winning the Bundesliga with the German giants last term.

With Arsenal struggling in the Premier League and a section of the supporters imploring the club to replace Arsene Wenger this summer, speculation has linked Ancelotti with a move to the Emirates Stadium.

When posed questions at a sports gala in Italy, the well-respected coach explained he still lives in London and hinted there will be some clarity on his future at the end of the current season.

“A ticket for London to sign with Arsenal? I live in London, so whatever happens I have to go back! (laugh),” the 58-year-old told Le10sport.

“For the moment it’s still early to talk about these things. As soon as the season ends, we can see more clearly.”

Wenger is without doubt an iconic figure at Arsenal, having spent over 20 years as the club’s manager, yet there are calls for the 68-year-old to now step aside and allow the club to go in a different direction.

The Gunners have not won the Premier League title for over a decade, and their recent 3-0 Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City illustrates just how far they have fallen behind their rivals.

Currently sitting in sixth place in the table, only a Europa League victory would now guarantee Champions League football for next season and what better way for Wenger to bow out with a bang.

Ancelotti won a league and cup double in his debut season at Chelsea, while the Italian has also won league titles in France, Germany and Italy as well as Champions League titles at AC Milan and Real Madrid.

The highly experienced boss could be the ideal replacement for Wenger, and considering he is 10 years younger than the Frenchman there is no reason why he cannot have a relatively long stint at the Emirates.
