Arsenal star Serge Gnabry has spoken of his return to fitness.
Arsenal star Serge Gnabry has spoken to the club’s official website on his return to fitness following a lengthy injury layoff.
The 19-year-old winger picked up a knee injury during the Gunners’ Champions League clash with Bayern Munich towards the end of last season and was ruled out of action for some time.
With the doctors unsure of how long he would be out, a potential loan move to a fellow Premier League club was scuppered during the summer as the youngster focused on his recovery.
Last Friday’s Arsenal U21 goalless draw with Blackburn marked his return and the German U19 international could not hide his delight at being back in the action.
“I felt alright after the Blackburn game,” Gnabry told Arsenal.com. “It was a good chance to work on my fitness and get back into shape. I enjoyed playing again.”
“I’ve been out for a long time so it felt amazing to finally get back out on the pitch. I’m enjoying playing my football and it’s good to get a game in. I’m very grateful to the club’s medical team and everyone who’s helped me to come back.”
Despite spending the best part of seven months sat on the side-lines, Gnabry has been keeping track of first team affairs by analysing games and the team’s style.
A number of players such as Alexis Sanchez, Calum Chambers and Danny Welbeck joined the North Londoners over the summer therefore it’s important for Gnabry to become familiar with any slight changes.
“As bad as missing games was, it was also good to watch a couple of games and analyse our team and the way they play,” he added.
The former Stuttgart youth star is in line to face Stoke U21 over the weekend as looks to build up his fitness ahead of any potential action for the first team in the coming weeks.
