Ally McCoist managed Rangers between 2011 and 2014.
Ally McCoist succeeded Walter Smith as manager of Glasgow Rangers in 2011 and remained manager as the club were demoted to the Scottish fourth division as a result of financial irregularities.
The former Scotland international striker helped the Ibrox club bounce back to the Scottish Championship with a double promotion, but ultimately resigned midway through the 2014-15 campaign due to poor form.
His loyalty to the club following their demotion was admirable and, despite being giants in Scottish football, the huge player turnover meant it was never an easy task to help Rangers immediately bounce back.
Here we take a look at his final five signings for the club prior to their first Championship campaign, and where those players are now following the tenures of Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixhina.
Kenny Miller: Signed from Vancouver Whitecaps
Kenny Miller had two previous spells at Rangers, including a year at Celtic sandwiched somewhere in the middle, and he returned to the Gers for a third time in the summer of 2014.
The experienced striker was McCoist’s first signing for the Scottish Championship campaign, and he went on to make 27 appearances for Gers that season despite being 34 years of age.
Remarkably Miller is still at the club and, at 38, still gets minutes on the pitch under caretaker manager Graeme Murty.
Darren McGregor: Signed from St Mirren
The 32-year-old defender joined Rangers on a one-year deal, with the option of an extension the following summer.
Many expected McGregor to stay on as he won Rangers’ Player of the Year that season, yet he was subsequently released from his contract and ended up joining rivals Hibernian.
To rub salt in to the wound, McGregor came back to haunt Rangers as he was part of the Hibs side which defeated the Glasgow side 3-2 in the Scottish Cup final a year later.
Kris Boyd: Signed from Kimarnock
The once highly-coveted striker re-joined Rangers for the 2014-15 season after his most prolific season at Kilmarnock the year before, scoring an impressive 22 goals in 37 games for Killie.
Boyd, however, struggled to make an impact at Rangers with just three goals in 29 league games. He was released at the end of the season and moved back to Kilmarnock.
Marius Zaliukas: Signed from Leeds United
The Lithuania international originally joined Rangers on trial, but after impressing McCoist and the Ibrox club’s coaching staff he was offered a two-year deal at the club.
Zaliukas, 34, made 28 appearances that season but left by mutual consent the following summer.
He now finds himself back in his home country plying his trade at title challengers Zalgiris.
Lee Robinson: Signed from Raith Rovers
McCoist’s final signing in charge of Rangers was goalkeeper Lee Robinson, who moved to Ibrox to play as backup to the injured Cammy Bell and the experienced Steve Simonsen.
Robinson made just a handful of appearances that season and moved the following summer to Queen of the South. Nowadays, the 31-year-old plies his trade at Dunfermline Athletic.
