Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez has told the club’s official website that he and his teammates will do everything to beat rivals Tottenham Hotspur this weekend for the club’s supporters.
The Gunners host their North London rivals in what is a highly-anticipated encounter between two sides expected to be challenging for the Premier League title come next May.
Arsenal currently sit in second place, level on points with leaders Manchester City, while Tottenham head into the clash three points behind and still undefeated in the League this season.
Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez warms up before the game
The former Barcelona man knows all about rivalries and its importance for the supporters, and he had nothing but praise for the Arsenal fans ahead of the weekend.
“Absolutely (yes, fans do come up to me and say to win this game), it’s a game that they want to see us win at all costs. They’re a massive rival. My team-mates and I will leave everything on the pitch,” Sanchez told Arsenal.com.
“The Arsenal fans are amazing supporters and that really helps me to perform well and want to give them something to celebrate.”
Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez celebrates scoring their first goal
Arsenal and Tottenham have a mixed head-to-head record in recent years, what with the last three games between the two at the Emirates Stadium ending in score draws.
On current form suggests that Arsene Wenger’s men will start the game as favourites, yet they will have to be wary of a Tottenham side who be happy to counter at pace and exploit the space in behind.
Sanchez netted in the last meeting between the two, a 2-2 draw at White Hart Lane, and he will no doubt be eager to get on the score sheet again Sunday afternoon.
