Agent says Derby County's Cameron Jerome turned down Ipswich loan move due to Norwich connection

Derby County forward Cameron Jerome has turned down the chance to join Ipswich Town on loan as a result of his connection to East Anglian rivals Norwich City, his agent tells the East Anglian Daily Times.

Jerome spent several successful seasons at Norwich, helping the club to promotion to the Premier League in the 2014/15 season before leaving the Canaries for Derby last January.

Despite a slow start with the Rams, the experienced forward played a key role in the club’s return to form at the end of the season and featured in both playoff semi-final legs against eventual winners Fulham.

But with Frank Lampard replacing Gary Rowett as manager in the summer, Jerome has been out of the first-team picture so far this season and is seemingly available for transfer ahead of the upcoming August 31 loan window.

It has been reported by the eadt that Ipswich have made a move for him, but his agent Eric Walters has explained why Jerome has opted to turn down a move to the Tractor Boys out of respect for Norwich.

“Cameron has decided on going elsewhere because of his association with the Norwich faithful, whose company on a Saturday afternoon he thoroughly enjoyed,” Walters explained.

“Playing for Ipswich was something that would have soured those wonderful memories, but I thank Ipswich Town and Mr Evans for his interest.”
