Norwich City have been linked with free agent Jordon Mutch.
According to a recent report in the Sun (January 16; page 53), Norwich City are looking at signing Jordon Mutch on a free transfer following his recent exit from Premier League side Crystal Palace.
The Canaries are already the envy of most Championship clubs when it comes to picking up a bargain.
Moritz Leitner is without doubt one of the best holding midfielders in the league. He records 1.9 key passes, 2.1 tackles and an impressive 85.1% pass-accuracy rate per game (Whoscored). Moreover, he was signed for a £1.5 million fee (Eastern Daily Press) having previously played for Borussia Dortmund.
But Norwich’s most impressive signing last summer was Teemu Pukki. Signed on a free transfer, the former Celtic man has netted 15 times in the Championship this term. Benik Afobe, in contrast, cost Stoke City £12 million (Sky Sports) and he has just seven goals to his name.
Norwich boss Daniel Farke knows how to pick up a bargain, and Mutch could fall into that category if the midfielder performs anywhere near his capabilities.
The former Derby County academy product netted seven Premier League goals in the 2013/14 campaign for Cardiff City, while he went on to make 20 top-flight appearances for Palace in 2015-16.
Mutch, 27, is capable of playing in several midfield positions and still has plenty left in the tank.
With Alex Tettey still out with injury for the next few weeks, confirmed by Farke in a report by the Eastern Daily Press, and Leitner still not back in training, Norwich could do with a boost and Mutch could provide that.
The Norfolk side are battling for automatic promotion as they sit in third spot, and the difference between now and May could be a question of squad depth and quality in reserve.
